This is the last week of my Trip and I an going to spend it in Australia at the gulf of Carpentara. The capital of Australia is Canberra. Where it is Australia is in the middle of the Indian ocean there are no countries that border it. The gulf is located at 14º south and 139º east. There are four seasons when its our winter it is there summer and so one. Here most of the houses are underground. A gold rush began in Australia in the early 1850s, and the Eureka Stockade rebellion against mining license fees in 1854 was an early expression of civil disobedience. Between 1855 and 1890, the six colonies individually gained responsible government, managing most of their own affairs while remaining part of the British Empire. The Colonial Office in London retained control of some matters, notably foreign affairs, defence, and international shipping. On 1 January 1901, federation of the colonies was achieved after a decade of planning, consultation, and voting. The Commonwealth of Australia was born and it became a dominion of the British Empire in 1907. The Federal Capital Territory was formed from a part of New South Wales in 1911 to provide a location for the proposed new federal capital of Canberra. (Melbourne was the temporary seat of government from 1901 to 1927 while Canberra was being constructed.) The Northern Territory was transferred from the control of the South Australian government to the Commonwealth in 1911. Australia is important to me because it is the only continent that is also only a country. To get to Australia I flew because it was to far to take a boat and I can't drive on water. I was luck and got a very cheap trip back home it was only $2,049. I figured it out last night it only cost me $48,984. I thought that my trip was very good for me going by myself. The most thing I learned was that not every place in the world are the same. My family was very happy to see me back in Maine.
